A State of Permanent Exception Project by Rad’Art

Art is an unstoppable flow. Despite the pandemic and the consequent prohibitions, the work of the artists does not stop. Most of the artists live an extraordinary existential condition, that I would not hesitate to define a state of permanent exception. Given that, being an artist responds to an inner impulse which it is impossible not to listen to. “Being” artists, rather than “doing” artists (1), is a primordial necessity, as well as a basic requirement, which goes beyond the limit of the person as an individual to rise a collective value.

Decrees can obviously stop the formal aspects, as they are: impossibility of accessing the place where the creative gesture materializes (work); impossibility of promoting creation through the usual forms that provide for meeting with other people in public places, such as museums, galleries and other kind of art spaces (Exhibit); even the impossibility, in this period in which we all live under confinement, to contractually transfer what has been created to third parties (Sell); ... But not artistic thought.

In the creative gesture there is, explicitly and unequivocally, the continuous construction of what we are, as human beings and as artists. That is to say, critical and aesthetic thought and action that match the deeper reasons of our artistic and human soul.

​

From one's own constraint, caused by confinement, ten artists have undertaken to transfer their creatively active testimony from the individual condition of isolation to the net. In order to make visible that state of permanent exception, like it is expressed in a continuous creative activity, from an intimate level to the social one. 

​

By researching the psychological effects that such a condition of isolation causes in us, and by listening attentively to the echo deriving from the stimulus coming from the outside. Which gives us back the sense of belonging to the community for which we finally work.

​

Sharing for free the research creative state of each of us, or even the work group, we aim to demonstrate that Art is not only a personal need but a primary social need, which needs to be addressed as a matter of civilization.

The connection with the operational philosophy of the Rates de Biblioteca research group, born from a project by Rosa Brugat, is that in this period of confinement, we are generators of our own archive material and documentation to base ourselves research in this residential project.

L'arte è un flusso inarrestabile. Nonostante la pandemia e i conseguenti divieti, il lavoro degli artisti non si è fermato. La maggior parte di loro vive una straordinaria condizione esistenziale, che non esiterei a definire uno stato di eccezione permanente. Detto questo, essere un artista risponde a un impulso interiore che è impossibile non ascoltare. "Essere" artisti, piuttosto che "fare" gli artisti (1), è una necessità primordiale, nonché un requisito basilare, che va oltre il limite della persona come individuo per accrescere il valore dell’intero collettivo sociale.

I decreti possono ovviamente interrompere gli aspetti logistici, come impedire l’accesso al luogo in cui si materializza il gesto creativo (Lavoro); l’impossibilità di promuovere la creazione attraverso le forme che prevedono l'incontro con altre persone in luoghi pubblici, quali musei, gallerie e altri tipi di spazi artistici (Mostra) e di conseguenza, in questo periodo vissuto in isolamento, di trasferire contrattualmente ciò che è stato creato a terzi (Vendita); ... Ma non possono fermare il pensiero e l’azione artistica.

Nel gesto creativo c'è, esplicitamente e inequivocabilmente, la costruzione continua di ciò che siamo, come esseri umani e come artisti. Vale a dire, pensiero critico ed azione estetico-etica che coincidono con il senso profondo della nostra anima artistica ed umana.

​

Dal proprio vincolo, causato dal confinamento, dieci artisti ci siamo impegnati a trasferire la propria testimonianza creativamente attiva dalla condizione individuale di isolamento alla rete. Da un livello intimo, a quello sociale. Al fine di rendere visibile quello stato di eccezione permanente, espresso dall’attività creativa continua ed inarrestabile, nonostante i decreti.

Abbiamo sondato gli effetti psicologici provocati dallo stato di isolamento e, al contempo, ascoltato attentamente l'eco giunto da ciò che accadeva all’esterno, in modo da restituire il senso di appartenenza alla comunità per la quale abbiamo sempre lavorato.

​

Condividendo gratuitamente lo stato creativo della ricerca personale, ed in questo caso anche del gruppo di lavoro, si compie un gesto teso a dimostrare che l'arte non è solo un'esigenza personale, ma un'esigenza sociale primaria. In quanto tale, da ritenersi una questione di civiltà.

​

Il nesso con la filosofia operativa del gruppo di ricerca Rates de Biblioteca, nato da un’idea di Rosa Brugat, è che in questo periodo di confinamento siamo stati generatori del nostro materiale di archivio e documentale, su cui ci siamo basati per eseguire una ricerca artistica in questo progetto residenziale.
